Why Pickleball?

Origins

Despite its recent popularity, pickleball originated in 1965. Two dads, Joel Pritchard and Bill Bell, came home one day to find their families bored with nothing to do. To alleviate that, they found some old ping pong and badminton equipment, borrowed a few rules from tennis, and concocted their own game! The goal was to create something that the whole family could play together, which is what makes the sport so widely accessible to most people today.

Health Benefits

Pickleball is a great way to stay active, especially for adults aged 55 and older. The court is small, and the lightweight, perforated ball moves slower than a traditional tennis ball. This means that players don’t need to use a lot of physical strain. However, it does still require quick reflexes and hand-eye coordination, which inherently improves balance and coordination.

Pickleball is also mentally stimulating – players use a lot of focus and strategy. Not to mention, its accessibility makes it a great way to stay social with friends and loved ones. Whether you’re playing competitively or just as a hobby, pickleball will keep you on your toes. Overall, it’s a great sport for people of all skill levels at all ages.

Pickleball Rules

The court is divided into six sections, and there are two sections where serves are made – just like tennis. The server underhands the ball from the right corner, and the ball must bounce beyond the opponent’s kitchen before being returned. As the game continues, the ball should bounce at least once on each side before players can volley the ball. Players earn a point when their opponents commit a fault.
